Confronting Employee Discrimination

Even though state and federal law speak out against discrimination in employment, it continues to occur all too often. At Landrum & Shouse LLP, we represent clients whose employment rights get disregarded.

We pursue cases to both help clients as well as preserve the letter of the law. Our attorneys' reputation for excellent case preparation, presentation and substantiation in discrimination cases speaks to their high level of skill in the civil litigation arena. Here are the status categories protected in the state of Kentucky and on the federal level.

State-Granted Rights

In Kentucky, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Kentucky Civil Rights Act state you have a right to not experience employment discrimination due to:

  • Age (40 or over) or gender
  • Race or religion
  • Color or national origin
  • Disability
  • Tobacco-smoking status

Federally Instituted Law

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) adds the following prohibited reasons for discrimination:

  • Pregnancy
  • Gender identity
  • Sexual orientation
  • Genetic information

Courtroom alternatives exist for some cases that can deliver a more expedient result with less expense. Two of our lawyers are certified mediators in the state of Kentucky and are experienced in resolving disputes outside the courtroom.
